Editor’s Note: This is a guest post from Rosa Park, a member of CrossFit Toronto’s Bootcamp Program.
My friend and roommate, Andrea, and I have a lot of fun things planned for this summer.
We’ve got beach volleyball, whitewater rafting, a trip to Peru for two weeks and the Tough Mudder event in September.
Neither of us have done the Tough Mudder challenge before, and we know we have to train for it.
We decided to make the commitment and join the 6:30am Bootcamp class at CrossFit Toronto.
First class was all about learning the stretches we’ll be doing before each class and we ended the class with a short WOD – 3 rounds of push ups, sit ups and squats for one minute each.
It didn’t seem like much but my arms were hurting for the rest of the day.
Day 2 was much more challenging.
We did 5 rounds of 80 skipping ropes, 20 squats and 10 pull ups for time. Ryan instructed us to do the Auxillary partner workout. It worked likes this. I had to do 20 air squats as fast as I can while Andrea had to stay in a squat hold until I finished. Same thing for sit ups.
By the end we were exhausted.
The worst (and dare I say best) day this week was Day 4, which was our benchmark workout day.
I have had some intense workouts before this, but this was by far the most intense workout I’ve done in a long time.
When I first saw the board for the WOD, I didn’t think it would be that intense, but by the first round, I realized this wasn’t going to be easy.
By the end of this workout, my face was as flushed as if I’d just finished a half-marathon, and I was sweating buckets.
This is the same workout we will be doing by the end of this Bootcamp this month, and we’ll see how much time I can cut. (My time was 12:02.)
Still only week one, but it feels like Andrea and I have accepted that this will be our routine/focus for the next month.
Looking forward to the rest of the week/month!
