We would like to extend a Big Congrats to our trainer, Leah, and to the voice of CrossFit Toronto, Siobhain, as they move on to pursue other CrossFit-related opportunities. But first, a brief history:
Leah’s first CrossFit workout was on Ocotber 29th, 2007, in our Bootcamp. In spite of the crazy early time (6am), her attendance was nearly perfect. No need to mention about the intensity she brought into her workouts (we all know how hard a worker she is) but it was the attention to detail that impressed John and I. Just like many of you, she started doing pull-ups with a green band and swinging an 8kg kettlebell.
Exactly one year later, she started her new chapter at CrossFit Toronto as a trainer. You all know what happened after that. She was an unreachable athlete packed into a tiny body who swept the white board, putting her name everywhere, and even earning female first muscle up in our gym! Of course, don’t forget about fun, energetic classes she lead… complete with an occassional, spontaneous running man.
Siobhain took our Introductory Program on June 5th, 2008 with John. She was and still is a hard, hard working girl, who, despite always pushing herself to her limits, is always smiling and cheery! She did anything, I mean ANYTHING to get better at her nemesis, the squat. If someone gave her advice on how to fix it, she was on it before you knew it! That’s how determined she was to conquer it! She does not quit, she does not make excuses but she does keep working until she gets what she wants. She is certainly a strong girl.
What she brought into CrossFit Toronto is not only her determination to get better no matter what, but also her personality, shown everyday on the CrossFit Toronto website. She brought something that we did not have before. Her posts were always fun and educational. To be honest, I looked forward to reading her post every morning at 5am before starting my day. I will miss that first 10 minutes of my day.
This is a bittersweet moment. We are proud to see them leaving the nest with confidence, but we are definitely going to feel incomplete without their presence and what they brought to CrossFit Toronto.
Leah, Siobhain, you will be missed greatly and we wish you all the best with your CrossFit adventures!
CrossFit Toronto is in the news, this time backed by a little star-power. Check out the full Globe and Mail article here. The article is well-written, although it does include some less-than-useful advice concerning sit-ups and aerobic training. Anyone who CrossFits actively knows full well where the “cardio” is, how aerobic capacity is developed, and how we protect our backs and spines. Feel free to leave a comment, here or on the Globe and Mail site.

I will definitely miss both of you!
Leah, I will always remember the day we were working out in the blistering heat outside, doing snatches, burpees and my most dreaded exercise: running.
I was the last one finishing it, in my last 200 m run, you came to run along side me and brought me home!
I don’t know whether I told you then but it meant a lot to me!
Reaks.

No more T Dot Sio blogging? No more possibility of a little “running man” injected into the 6am WOD?! Not sure if I would have made it beyond bootcamp (Vol. 1 or 2) without your support & encouragement to come play with the big kids. You made it fun & inspiring. No doubt your next venture will be a huge success.
I will miss you both immensely.
