Let the Games Begin…

The Countdown is on!

The CrossFit Games start Friday.  Most of the Affiliate teams are on the move …heading towards the game site in Aromas, California.

What started as a small challenge 3 years ago has blown up into an international competition.  This years qualifiers drew athletes from around the world in the thousands to compete for a spot.

Here’s a brief history of the games, It’s Time for the Games, from CrossFit Marin.

The Affiliate Cup is the team competition and the events begin Friday.  It consists of three events, and the teams are ranked according to time, loads, reps, and/or rounds.  The five top teams will move on to compete on Sunday morning for the final event.  Scores on Sunday will be added to the team’s Friday event totals to determine the winner of the Affiliate Cup.

The Individual competition structure is a little more complex.  Athletes will compete on Saturday in five events.  All athletes complete the events in the same order, and scoring is the same as for the Affiliate Cup.

The overall ranking going into each event will determine the reverse starting order for that event.  So if you win an event, it means you start later in the next event…more rest…we all love that!

After the second event, there is a round of eliminations.  The bottom ten males and bottom ten females will not continue.   This will leave approximately 55 competitors in the final events for each class (male and female).  After the five events on Saturday, the top 16 males and top 16 females will advance to Sunday’s final events.  YES… I said EVENTS… plural!

As in the Affiliate Cup, the previous scores (from Saturday’s events) will be combined with the Sunday totals to determine a male and female CrossFit Champ!  The Fittest Man and Woman in the world… some may claim!

  • 25 Dumbbell Hang Cleans (boys: 40#; girls: 30#)
  • 25 Hip Extensions
  • 500m Row
  • 25 One Arm Dumbbell Snatch
  • 25 Knees to Elbows
  • 4oom Run
  • 25 Dumbbell Push Press (boys: 40#; girls: 30#)
  • 25 Straight Leg Dumbbell Deadlift (boys: 40#; girls: 30#)
