I got the nicest surprise yesterday from a complete stranger. Then I stumbled upon this great post by Dutch Lowry in my daily blog stalk: A Different look at Performance
Funny thing coincidence is!
We are all striving for different goals. And we will all get there at different rates. I did the 60km Breast Cancer Walk a few years ago. A woman ahead of me was quite slow moving and blocking my way. I was getting frustrated as there wasn’t an opportunity to pass her. A very poor attitude on my part and I was quickly put in my place when I read the back of her shirt.
“The miracle is not that I finished. The miracle is that I had the courage to start.”
(I later found out this is a quote by John Bingham, a Runner’s World contributor and author of several running related books)
I stayed behind that wonderful woman until the next rest station where I lost her in the crowd.
To my new favorite stranger…think about what you are striving for and don’t be afraid to get there. I bet you are stronger than you think. Progress is different for everyone… the point is, you are progressing. Come play with the big kids… I bet you’ll wonder what you were waiting for!
Take a second to consider your measure of performance.
